Jaipur is known as the 'Pink City', due to a large section of the old city painted in pink. This central section contains a number of sites of interest to tourists: The Palace and Observatory, built 300 years ago and still a residence of the royal family (the former rulers of Jaipur), are partially open to the public. Shopping is also a major reason to visit this city. Jewelry, fabrics, rugs, and copper work are unique.
