Kashmir changes its character with the seasons, always very beautiful. Set like a
jeweled crown on the map India, Kashmir is a many-faceted diamond,
changing
its character with the season-always extravagantly beautiful. Three Himalayan ranges, Karakoram, Zanskar and Pir
Panjal, snow capped, majestically frame the landscape from northwest to northeast.
They are the birth place of great rivers which flow down into the valley below, forested with wild orchards and lily laden lakes. The Mughals, who celebrated beauty, planted their symmetrical
gardens and also left behind a heritage of exquisite artisanship among the people.
Kashmir is not only beautiful but it possesses grandeur, serenity, and a wild profusion of colors. A land where myriad holiday ideas take shape. In winter, when mountains are covered with
snow, heli-skiing, skiing, sled-riding are popular. In spring and summer, rippling lakes and fast running icy cold rivers are the center for events like water-skiing, white water
rafting, fishing. The cultural heritage of Kashmir is, therefore, very rich and derives its inspiration and strength both from her natural environs and the rich literature and literary
traditions alike.
