Manipur is bounded by Nagaland in the north, Mizoram in the south, Upper Mayanmar in the east and Cachar district of Assam in the west.
Its people include the Meities,
Nagas, Kukis and other communities, which have lived in complete harmony for centuries. An alluring atmosphere of mystery, a land wrapped in velvety
silence is what instantly strikes a visitor
to Manipur, which literally means 'the land of jewels'. These are the people whose folklore, myths, dances, martial arts, and exotic handicrafts are invested with the mystique of nature, and an
indefatigable ``joie de vivre''. Its capital, Imphal is the only plain area. Imphal is surrounded by hills in all the sides. Manipuri was recognised as a national language in 1992. Manipuri had
been a Union Territory from 1956 and a full-fledged state from 1972.
Manipur
has a lot to offer to tourism enthusiasts. Imphal, the beautiful capital city in the valley; Mao and Ukhrul, the picturesque hill resorts; Taminglong, with its exotic landscape;
Chandel, home to amazing tribes; Khonggom and Moirang, reminders of the British Raj in India; and a glimpse into the
neighboring country of Burma, through Moreh town on the border. A visit
to these magnificent places, leaves a lingering impression on the mind of the visitor.
Its scenic, virgin land is simply enchanting to see. The lush green mountains; slender rivers that criss-cross the valley; the
far off waterfalls in the hills; floating islands in the Loktak
Lake (biggest fresh water lake in the eastern India) those hilltop huts; the sunrise on the Koubru mountain; and many more... are some of the miracles of God Himself. You will certainly have a
Natural experience.
