A destination for all seasons. The land of massive forts,
grand palaces, bustling bazaars, endless desert sands, dense forests, teeming
wildlife and birdlife. A land that never ceases to intrigue and enchant...all
aptly sum up the enchantment called Rajasthan.
Rajasthan, India’s desert
state, was once a collection of princely kingdoms where feudal traditions still
carry on amidst forts and palace hotels. A line of camels galloping on the sand,
riders in multicoloured turbans, their weather beaten faces speaking of the
frequent sand storms and the harsh sun make a typical picture of the desert. One
of the most exotic locales for the tourist, Rajasthan has not only survived in
all its ethnicity but owes it charisma and colour to its enduring traditional
way of life.
The history of Rajasthan speaks of glory, courage and
honour. The most conspicuous and tenacious group of people featuring in, indeed
molding the history of the state has been the Rajputs. The Rajput warriors
embodied the code of chivalry and the legends behind the various forts, palaces
and other tourist spots bring to us the picture of 'The Land of the Kings'.
These places still carry an almost palpable aura of the enduring glory and
pulsating vitality of the former kingdom of Rajputana.
Each of its
cities is a great tourist attractions with pride of place going Jaisalmer,
Jodhpur, Udaipur and Ajmer. Hawa Mahal, Amber Fort, Umaid Bhawan, Jantar Mantar,
Pushkar, Ranthanbhore National Park are musts on every tourist's itinerary. The
capital city, Jaipur, was the stronghold of a clan of rulers whose three hill
forts and series of palaces in the city are important attractions.
